i do not have the work program on my laptop and i need to check my email while im gone.is there a way to get in to my work computer.please help

This problem is very easily solved IF you have a decently fast internet connection on your home/work computer and a good connection through your laptop. What you need is a software that is able to allow you to access your own work computer at home/work through real time, in other words you control your computer through your laptop. The software is free and all you need is to sign up for a free account. There are several software available, I recommend using www.logmein.com and to transfer files, use GetByMail (can be found through www.pcworld.com/52516). This remote access method is very easy and I use it all the time when I am at school. The only thing is that you have to make sure your home/work pc is always connected to the internet and does not have a frequent freeze rate. You can use Windows XP's Remote Desktop Connection. That will let you work on your computer at work from anywhere in the world. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection. You will need to know the full name of the business computer (Start > Control Panel > System > Remote) , user name, password, and domain. When you are in the Remote dialog make sure that Remote Desktop Connection is enabled and that other computers can connect through that computer.

Check with your IT department. Most medium to large workplaces have a process and software available for doing this. If your company has a firewall (and 99.9% of them do), none of the programs listed above by the others are likely to work. They are designed for home use, not business.
