My son has been sick for 3 weeks with diarrhea and he is almost refusing to eat. I have changed his formula to soy, I give him toast and thicken his baby food with rice cereal, but nothing seems to help. At 6 months he weighted 16 lbs and now at 9 months and 1 week he weights in at 16 lbs 5 oz and 28 inches. This cannot be healthy. Please help!!

I have taken him to the doctor and they don't know what is wrong, they are in the process of doing lab test.

He probably needs some antibiotics, usually if he can't get over a illness after 1 week he will need some medicine to help out. Now from 6 months to 9 months did he become more active? Like more walking or crawling or such? This will also have an effect. Not to mention from 6-9 months they don't grow too much anyway. My son is 8 months now and he actually lost 3 oz from his 6 month visit but he is eating fine. Don't worry too much about that but be sure to get him to the doc to get some meds in him. He may be dehydrated too. If his lips are chapped, he has any problem producing tears or if when you pinch his finger nail the color doesn't come back in 2 seconds then take him to the ER to get him some fluids. When you have his next well baby check up check with the doc to see what their suggestions are about gaining weight! Let me know how he does. I'm kinda worried about him poor thing!

My son went through something similar and we found out he had acid reflux, he was throwing up so much that he wasn't getting any fluids and couldn't regulate his bowels which can cause diarreah. That may be a possibility. Otherwise it could just be a virus that will go away. You can email me if you want to talk or ask some ?'s. suzannekumaraswamy@yahoo.com

I dont think there is anything wrong with his weight my daughter is almost 9 months old and she is only 17 pounds. I would be more conserned with the diarrhea but he must be keeping something down to not have lost weight. I had alot of stomach problems when i was a baby and they just kept changing the formula and i was fine.

it particularly is amazingly general for a new child's weight to plateau after 6 months and weight benefit to slow. My very wholesome 15 month previous has basically gained 4 pounds in 9 months, and the pediatrician would not even bat an eye fixed approximately it with the aid of fact she is gaining top and assembly milestones, and IS gaining weight, basically slowly. thoroughly general.

My daughter was 9 months and weighed 16lbs 4oz...she's always been little but it sounds like you have more serious problems then that. How many dirty diapers does he have? That is a good indicator of how much he's eating (like wet not poopy if he has diarrhea). Try to give him some pedialite so he doesn't' get dehydrated that is really important. And offer him drinks all the time, water, Gatorade, pedialite.....cool aid if he'll drink it.....anything to hydrate him.

Wait for the lab results and pray! Encourage him to eat and keep doing what you have been doing with his formula and baby food. I hope that everything gets better quickly and that the doctors will be able to help you without complications. I can't even imagine how scary this is for you. You have my sympathy and prayers.

At nine months my baby weighd 18 lbs but if your worried you need to see a doctor if you havn't already. If your doctor didn't ask you to change you formula then you shouldn't have switched it, but at most if you havn't seen a doctor then you should do so. Hope it gets all better!

if your child is sick for longer than a few days you should take your child to the doctor, especially if they are not eating and have diarrhea.

your baby could be dehydrated and that is very, very dangerous. i suggest you take your child to emergency right away...
