Such as: They listen to Pop music, or decorate their kitchen in faux-country style, or wear hideously unflattering clothes, or inflict their horrifying aestetics on you by foisting Vanilla Ice oven mitts or Duran Duran CDs on you? But you love them so much, you can't bring yourself to complain? How does one cope?

well. i don't like to change people..but in that case, a suggestion couldn't hurt. my rule is, when i'm around, we listen to my music. suggest some bands, or just by them the cd and hold them hostage until they listen to it. if anyone is in to music, they're willing to broaden their musical tastes. so make them. and hide the oven mitts.... say the duran duran cds dissapeared at the last garage sale. or my favorite "waddin me". good luck, you'll need it

You can't really change anybody but yourself. Judging by your question I would have to say that this person is "opposite" of you? Very nice to start...but in the long run not so great.
You know what they say opposites attract, but I speak from experience when I say that the attraction does not last very long. It is kind of like a front because the love is so strong. You do need someone who is more like you but different enough to feel the attraction. I wish you luck.

I once dumped my girlfriend cause she listened to AFI, SUM 41, and sublime. That music sucks - it's for weirdos that hang out in front of liquor stores and Trailer trash music.
If it's a relative then you can dump them, so I guess your stuck.

try and compramise, if your willing to change your partner, you have to be willing to make some changes yourself! Decide if you truly love your partner, or your taste better. If it really bugs you, when their birthday comes up (or a holiday of somesort) buy em some clothes!!
