It is a myth thought up by the tree huggers to get money from the federal government of the USA to do studies. they had to have a reason for the grants. Over all, although it seems warmer the earth has actually warmed only about 1 degree. It is warmer in cities because of the concrete and asphalt.
They have tried to blame the depletion on fluorocarbons, but that is a out and out lie because Mt. Pinatubo (hope that is spelled close) has put out more fluorocarbons than all the air conditioners, aerosol cans and refrigerators have combined since before WWII.
Also H.A.A.R.P. is to blame for the changes in weather. If you don't know what that is...look it up and find out.
Reading some of the answers given no wonder the bad guys are winning...quit believing the garbage put out by the news media and learn for yourselves. I keep giving information and sites and yet you don't look at them or try to learn...no wonder this world is going the way it is...too many young people just parrot what they hear and never check out for themselves...get with it kids because you are fast loosing your country and world! Now read below!

The earth has been in exixting for over a million years and yet we are experiencing all these "phenomena" about global warming only in the past few years.
I remember when I was a kid, we were allowed to play under the sun and my parents won't mind. Even at the beach, we could stay for as long as we want. Back then suntan lotions only had SPF5 or 10 and it was ok.
These days we have the so-called "EL NINO" phenomenon (prolonged and extrremely HOT summer days) and the "LA NINA" phenomenon (prolonged and extra HEAVY rainy days). We never experienced them before.
It is only in the recent years that people started using prodcts with CFCs and other harmful ingredients in them, also recently there have been natural disasters (such as volcanic eruptions), of course there is this nuclear activity going on, not to forget the smoke that is being emitted by vehicles - air pollution, and carelessness of a lot of people, that contribute to the thinning of the layer.. and if people continue to be careless about it, it would worsen. Who knows what would come out of it? The only thing I know is that when the ozone layer gets a bigger hole, everything that is existing on the face of this planet will suffer the consequences because of carelessness of some.

The earth is getting warmer from the polar ice caps melting which they say is caused by global warming. Things you should really be concerned about is comets-asteroids- and yellow stone park. If the earth is never destroyed by a comet or asteroid things are great. If Yellowstone blows the u.s is in deep sh*t because that will cause a lot of deaths and we will go into a mini ice age. But for the real destruction of the earth no survive rs and yes it will happen is when the sun becomes a red giant and fry everything. that will be the end to everything and it will knock out some planets next door too. you will not see this in our life time THANK GOD

If you're not sure, then watch An Inconvenient Truth.
Global warming breaks down into this: Rays from the sun come down to earth, reflect off the polar ice caps, and go back into space. On its way out of Earth's atmosphere, it can be blocked by a layer of all the pollution and exhaust from cars and factories and fuel burning. It then stays on Earth, making it a little warmer here.
As it gets warmer, the ice caps begin to melt more and more, making less ice to reflect sun rays back into space. Those rays instead stay on Earth, also adding to the heat.
So you can see where this leads unless we all start making changes now. Americans label global warming as a myth because they don't want to accept the fact that they have to begin to conserve energy like everyone else in the world is doing. Drive less, walk more, no hummers, and invest in new energy sources.

in the 70's to the late 90's we depleted the ozone layer a whole **** load. over new york there is a hole in the ozone layer, but all of the holes are healing, but it will be a loooooooooooong time before its healed completely. if you look at shaving cream bottles, then they will say "no cfc's" and on dis-infectant cans it says the same thing. cfc's deplete the ozone layer. its not a cycle. the magnetic cover of our planet is going through its cycle, and soon compassas will point south instead of north (in like 50-500 years i think) thnx to the holes in the ozone layer, the earth let rays in through, and it heated the ocean, and it is what is causing all these hurricanes.

the ozone depletion and ozone formation was once stable. But after the invention of CFCs, internal combustion of fossil fuel, it led to an increase of the concentration of greehouse gases that promotes global warming. Ozone depletion is indeed due to human development whereby more and more primary and secondary pollutant are being released into the atmosphere that would react readily with the ozone. Global warming, though, is due to high amount of CO2 etc.

Yes. the chlorine in the cfc's that we produce break apart in the atmosphere and bind with oxygen from ozone (O3) It then forms chlorine oxide. this is then broken apart by solar radiation, but the Ozone has already been broken apart. This reaction happens almost instantaniously, and since it forms and breaks over and over again, it becomes a persistent and autonomous cycle that can continue endlessly with enough chlorine. I say this, because when the Cl breaks away from the O, The O has time to bind with an O2, and create ozone again, but then the chlorine comes along and starts the process all over again.

Yes, we are really depleting the Ozone!
It's the use of CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons), Aeroplanes especially Military Jets, & many other million ways.
If on one hand we have/are depleting the Ozone then on the other hand there are people/organizations/governments, who understand the gravity of the problem & are taking preventive measures to stop further damage.
The use of CFCs has already decreased to a great extent.
Even Travel Guides such as Lonely Planet have started to mention the hazards of aeroplanes on the Ozone & encourage their Tourists to use Trains instead of Air Travel!
Strangely, Ozone layer has the capaility to self heal! Large parts of it have self healed over Australia but it's this property is very slow, so, in order to let it heal completely & for us to be responsible enough for the safety of our future kids,we have to completely stop the damage caused to Ozone by us Humans.
And yes, CFCs or for that matter Aeorplanes/Jets are all man made products/objects..

we WERE depleting the ozone due to CFC's back in the 80s and 90s but now with proper prevention and new chemical substitution, CFC production has decreased
but the ozone hole IS sealing up, contrary to what pike said
it will take another 50 years to completely seal up at the rate our CFC's are decreasing
global warming is a bit overexaggerated; yes co2 emissions DO have something to do with our climate, but not SIGNIFICANTLY. our climate is going through a cyclic change..

So you're one of those people who don't believe that humans are having a devastating environmental impact on the planet! You're probably one of those "visionaries" who doesn't believe in evolution either! It's cool, go back to hiding your head in the sand, but one suggestion: take a few remedial science books with you and read them if the sand doesn't blind you past the point that ignorance and stupidity already have!!!
