There would be no movie if Mr. Anderson didn't choose to fight the robots. So, if I were him, of course I would do the same. He did, after all, turn out to be something of the people's savior, even though he died in a pretty stupid way.

For Mr Anderson there is no lie. He lives because the matrix lives in the same exact way that you live because the world exists. There is no such thing as 'outside the matrix' for Mr Anderson.
