They can't be seen in mirrors - would a vampire set off motion detector?

It depends what form the vampire was in.
The sliding door sensors sometimes have "magic eyes" which detect motion across them; others have pressure plates which detect weight.
If you can physically see and touch the vampire, it will set off the magic eye. If the vampire is walking on the ground and not floating, it will set off the pressure plate.
A vampire in mist form will not set off the plate and probably not the magic eye.
A vampire in speed form might not set off the magic eye if it's the scanning type; if it's a fixed beam and the vampire goes through it the door will open, but the vampire will already be through the glass. I'm not sure how hard a speeding vampire hits the ground (if at all) so I don't know about the pressure plate.
Interesting question, thanks for asking.

Technically, a vampire is still corporeal and therefore solid. So yes, a vampire would set off a motion detector. The question would then be, would motion detectors be an effective security measure against vampires before or after you had invited them into your home? This question may already be covered in the Watcher's Guide.

Contrary to popular belief, yes the doors of your local grocery store would open for a vampire. The sensors that open grocery store doors are active sensors (as opposed to passive). These send out microwave radio energy then wait for it to bounce back. Passive sensors don't emit any energy (light etc) into the environment. The common motion detector is a good example. They detect changes in energy such as infrared energy. These are usually set to detect small changes in the temperature of the human body. One cool experiment is if you stand behind a window, the motion sensors won't "see" you! This is because glass isn't a good conductor of infrared energy. So if the vampire was standing behind a window, then I guess he/she wouldn't be detected!

No, it's very embarrasing.
I've recently managed to solve the problem, however. I now wait near the door, pretending that I'm talking over the cell phone, and when a real human activates the door, I seize the opportunity and jump right into the store as fast as I can.
I once got jammed in the door for doing that, but it's sure better than admitting you are a vampire and then having the store owner refuse to sell you curtains.

yes because a sensor is not a mirror. to be more specific there is no mirror or a door sensor. the real question should be.

If a vampire walks into your shop will he set off the entry sensor and let you know he's entered?

no, there physical body can only be seen to the human eye. the door wouldnt sense it as motion casue it wouldnt detect it. Or it may slide open becasue of there physical weight on the detection mat. Thats a good question. I dont know

Yeah a vampire could be detected just like everyone else, they have nothing to do with mirrors.

the sensor on an automattic door uses a wieght judgment, not a sight judgement, and even if it did use a sight judgment, it brings up another question, vampires don't appear in mirrors, but do they appear when photographed or filmed????
