Well, freedom of speech has limitations. You can't libel or slander people, or shout "fire" in a crowded theater. Speech which is likely to incite violence is deemed to not be protected by the first amendment. The issue is where to draw the line as to speech that is likely to incite violence.

Only when hate speech starts to advocate violence is it no longer considered free speech. Otherwise, they're indistinguishable.

I think hate speech is a problem when it truly endangers someone. I guess we need to tolerate it if we are all going to have fee speech.
