Interesting. You say AC Cord, do you mean the Transformer? There could be a problem With the Battery, try removing. Also, there may be a problem in the Power Supply inside the Computer. Hard to say. Look inside the Plug Hole on the Laptop and be sure there not Trash that may be Shorting the Connector. Also, Be sure the Transformer is of the Proper Rating for your Laptop. This about all I know to try.
Oh! Now this another guess. IF, Someone can check the House Voltage there may be a lose wire and it not getting the proper AC Voltage it needs or Too much. I would say it not be enough voltage.

Hard to say, could be an electrical surge, could be you have a problem in the connection on the laptop itself, could be alot of things, I would call the manufacturer of the laptop make sure there are no known issues with the model of laptop you have
