the joke is so old. it has so many different answers. some say because the chicken wants to get to the other side. others say that because there was a female chicken on the other side and the male chicken wanted to get to know her. another one i heard was because he was bored. or the chicken saw there was food on the other side and that's why the chicken crossed the road.
