I think violent and sexual video games, and violence on TV and in films are having a negative effect on many young people. Since children are going to be exposed to some of this, no matter how hard we try to protect them, we must teach them moral values. That video games and movies are not real. If you shoot someone in real life they really die. They don't come back to life in some other show. We need to teach them to have respect for themselves and others. We need to sit down and watch TV with them. Find alternative forms of entertainment (go outside, to park, play games, camping, etc.). Children learn a great deal by what they see their parents do. They are like little sponges soaking everything up. They copy what they see. So, it's up to us to decide what they see.

People are always saying that "today's youth have worse morals than they did in my day".
Even in the Bible, the prophets complain of how crappy everyone is acting, it was better back in the day.
I think video games and TV reflect society. HOWEVER, I worked in the video game industry in the early 1990's and a majority of games back then were actually geared toward children with a minimum of sex and violence. The streets still had gangs, murders still happened, but video games, for the most part were a lot more tame. The designers and programers really wanted to produce more "mature" games. I think Nintendo, to some extent, still produces less violent, less provocative games. My hat's off to them, but I still enjoyed games like Grand Theft Auto as much as the next guy.
I do notice my kids act a little more aggressive after watching certain movies or playing certain games. But hey, if people didn't buy violent games and watch explicit tv, they would not be produced to this extent.
There's a war going on, remember? Maybe the six o'clock news is affecting the youth more than the latest Fox sitcom. I don't even flinch anymore from anything. I almost freaking cried the first time I saw a beheading. Now, nothing.
Plus so many are pushing for the end times. Make everything worse! Start Armageddon! Bring back Jesus! Like anyone needs any encouragement.

I think it might have an AFFECT on things, but overall the only thing you can really blame is the family and friends. More and more children are being born into families where the parents don't care and/or the family is pure trash, therefore the child grows up to be what the family is and what he/she sees from the family members. It's not always the family though, often times it's the friends. A family can be as loving and supportive and positive as possible, but if that child gets in a group of smart alick kids who think drugs and fights and alcohol are cool, then it's really just a matter of peer pressure kicking in. They can either take it or leave it.
I get tired of so many people using video games and TV to explain the chaos in the world. That may be a cause, but if the child had parents who were involved, that stuff wouldn't be in the house in the first place. And even moreso, there are DOZENS of good, positive video games and tv shows out there.. again, it's a matter of how involved the parents are willing to get and the friends the child has to influence their actions.

Yes video games and TV is still affectinf young people today. everything in life has a cause and effect. Have you ever wondered why ad mangers earn so much money. Because they influence the crowd to buy a certain product or do something. video games are addictive. It is really hard to quit playing once you are in to it. see for yourself. I have actually got addictied to both of the things.

Yes, I am a teacher of emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and they re-enact the violence they encounter on those video games.... even the kids who havent seen it in their own lives. I think kids are allowed to watch too much of the shows they shouldnt be. It isnt the technology itself, its the lack of supervision of whats out there.
