The Big Red One. Most were from either New York City or New Jersey. They fought courageously in Europe. You also have the Screaming Eagles, 101st airborne, they parachuted into France during the Allied invasion. Also the U.S. Army Rangers special task force landed in Normandy on D-Day.

I presume you are interested in the American army, if so squads did not have names, they were part of platoons which in turn were part of companies which were usually named 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E' etc. You are probably familiar with 'Easy' company from Band of Brothers. These Companies are then part of Regiments which have numbers, like 501st PIR (Parachute Infantry Regiment) and three or four of these would form a division, like 82nd Airborne, or my favourite 2nd Armored division "Hell on Wheels".
