Some people want to be seen as cool so they do things they hope will impress others. The important thing is not that it might mean something but that it impressed you !! What can that possible mean ? Nothing except what he told you... that THE DOORS were a great band. That there are things known and things unknown... what's so new about that ???!!! But put the two together, ahhh, now we have something that only a few can understand... you and I are certainly not one of them !!! Thank God !!! (and with this 'clever' analysis all I get is 2 points)

The Doors took their name called The Doors Of Perception by Aldous Huxley. It's all about how there are other levels of reality which we can only experience through drugs like LSD, and this reality is kept out by mental doors. I think the text you quote is from that book

Actually I believe it was one of their own marketing gimmicks if you want to get right down to why someone would write it. The real question is if HE understood why they said it?
