Saw the movie "The Perfect Stranger " and I want my gf in
Athens to see it. I know it wont play on Greek TV but will it
play on her computer(Toshiba-using Linux).

If you are using computer, and your dvd player program has option/setup changing dvd region settings, then you are safe. I am not entirely 100% sure, but I believe common dvd program has the feature I mentioned earlier.

If you are going to play it on a dvd player (i mean watching it on TV), most likely you won't be able to play it cause most dvd player units have region info hardcoded. Of course there are player units that can play all regions available on the market.

It wont play unless the computer sytem came from the United States. You have the option of changing regions but this can only be done 4 times and then it can no longer be changed.

of course it willnot play directly on any tv system outside the us or non us format of nstc because greek uses pal system regarding your gf laptop it will work using linux buecause it has using same system of video codecs for microsoft and linux

No, there are two different standards. It will not play.

US standard = NTSC
Europe = PAL
France = SECAM

None are compatible with the other. If you bring a US DVD player you can play it.

who knows, depending on what region DVD,which if u bought it in the US it is region one. I dont think so, unless you bought your computer in the US, I think ur screwed. It all depends on the region. All U.S Electronics are designed for Region one.
