Depends what sort of website it is. A good place to go is Commission Junction http://www.cj.com as they handle affiliate accounts for thousands of companies including Yahoo.
Sign up with CJ then subscribe to the products and services you want to sell on your site - some of them you'll be approved for instantly, others require manual approval and you'll receive an e-mail in a day or two.
All the banner ads, html etc are provided for you. Everything is free, no signing up fees or anything like that. You can check your online account at any time and payments are made directly to your bank account once a month.
One excellent site that isn't part of te CJ network is http://www.art.com - 25% commission paid on all sales. You can put pictures of pretty much anything on your site and when visitors click them they're taken through to art.com where they can buy poster prints etc.

Use either Yahoo! or Google ads to redirect traffic and earn money each time a page visitor clicks on an advertisement. You can sit back and count the cash!
