If the kid doesn't have the grandfathers permission then its illegal. But if the grandfather says its okay and its in his house then its okay. Some states laws very in this. But most states say that a kid that if in his own house with his parents permission can drink. But if the kid gets intoxicated then the parents are responsible for his actions.Example If your toasting in the new year with a glass of champaign and your sibling asks to be a part of, your okay to give your permission for him to toast in the new year. ripplouder@yahoo.com

I think that Grandpa could be charged with "contributing
to the delinquency of a minor". Generally after one sip
little children do not like the taste of beer anyway and
will steer clear for more

Yes...just don't get caught drinking beer from your grandfather's glass in front of a police man.

In most states, it is NOT illegal for a minor to consume alcohol provided to them with the consent of a legal guardian. Hell, I offered my 9 year old cousin beer last weekend just to show him that he hates the taste of it.
Alcohol abuse among the youth in this country is so rampant because we are so obsessed with it.

I believe that it depends on the situation. If it was accidental on the child's part, no, it is not illegal. On the other hand, if the child wanted to experience the "world of drunkenness", or were already addicted and wanted a bit, it is, indeed, illegal.

Yes it's illegal to drink under age, but it is very difficult to enforce when it is done under the observation of an adult family member.

It's illegal and child abuse because it's irresponsible. But many alcoholics were born this way. I am totally against it. You may as well pull out a doobie and smoke it in front of him.

in some states such as texas and louisiana you are allowed to purchase your child a drink. i know this because i was the fiance of a very prominate attorney in louisiana and we researched it so that he could buy his daughter a drink in a resturant like was the case when living in france. it is common there.
