These seem to like standing water (if we rinse out something iin the sink and leave it to soak, you come back and there are tons of these little things that fly away). Not any really on the windows just mainly in the kitchen area

i think what you might be talking about are drain flies
if so they are a pain in the --- ,, what i do at nite before i go to be i drop a cap full of bleach in each drain .. the next morning run water down them ,, do this for about a week and you should be rid of them .. also look by your garbage can if they are the regular house flies then they start a maggots and turn in to flies that could be the reason all of a sudden there were tons of them . look for garbage some were or food left some were ,, but i think you are referring to drain flies

There is an organic treatment called Gnatrl It's a Bt that kills fungus gnats in the soil Or if you wanna go cheaper use one tbsp of the old fashioned dishsoap like octagon, or baby/horse/castile shampoo in a gal of water to water your plants with, This will kill the emergeing larva (but not the eggs) Odds are you will need to do this 4 to 6 weeks depending on the infestation

They like to get between the window & curtains. Spray them w/insecticide & take out every bit of trash in the house. I had an infestation that looked a scene from a horror movie. Carry a flyswatter w/you & kill, kill, kill!
