I am a service technician for a copier company. They were rather small when I started with them but now they are growing. I have always used my personel vehicle for use on my service calls but now it is becoming a hassle. They told me I can get paid for my mileage but my car is paid for and is getting close to its last leg. It has been in the shop for this past week and my employer has started to complain about it because I've had to use his delivery truck....Do I have the right to tell him that I don't want to use my personal vehicle for company use anymore without him being able to fire me? Any suggestion or advice or answers are much appreciated. Thanks!!!

not sure about your company but the company i work for i have to drive my own vehicle, it's a must, a part of the job, and keeping it running is on me, but it is a government law they MUST pay you mileage or some type of reimbursement.
I don't know how many miles you drive , but I know that I love it. My truck is paid for and it pays all my gas plus. But I make enough in mileage to make $3-$400 car payment and insurance each month. some people look at it as wearing your vehicle out, but I come out way ahead. My company has paid for my last two vehicles & put good money in my pocket.

the going rate for personal use milage it 46.5 cents a mile, at least im pretty sure of it, an employer can not force you to use your personal car for work unless there is something in writing stating that it is part of the job you were hired for, also, as an owner of that store he should have proof of your vehichle insurance, or have coverage from him to cover you. its a touchey subject, but i think if you steap to him about it and just let him know where you stand, any normal boss should understand. hope it helps.

There are some variables here but if it is a right to work state then he can decide that he doesn't need you anymore for whatever reason he chooses.
My advice, go find another job if it is becoming a problem.

yes, I do, be polite but be firm, tell them you are not getting paid enough to continue using your auto. Insist that they provide COMPANY OWNED transportation for service calls.
This is fair and is not placing an undue burden on the company. it sounds like they are simply taking advantage of you

Is it part of your job description that you use your personal vehicle? If not, I don't think your telling him you can no longer use it would be grounds for firing.

You can tell him anything you want. however I would check with teh Department of Labor in your state and they will have the answer for you.

if you make your boss made he can fire you he can always say you wasnt doing your job or you was harrasing him or something if i was you i would find me a new job and quiet the one you have now
