Of course you can. As long as it has Visa, MasterCard, or some other well known logo, you can. Now, if you are trying to use it for online gambling, well, see there's the problem. IT'S ILLEGAL!!!
Ensure that your expiration date is correct, the CVV code (aka the signature panel code on the back) is correct, and the names and addresses match on your bank account and card, and what you are providing to the online merchant. Merchants check this information to ensure it is legit. If even one thing is wrong, it will be denied.
If it is just being denied, you should contact your bank and ask a few questions. What are my limits? Is there a block or fraud red flag on my account/card? Is there a problem internally with my card and the bank? I could really go on for years about what the issue may be, but the best way to solve this quick is to contact your bank, immediately. If the debit card has a Visa or MasterCard logo, it works online. Check with your bank.

ANYONE can use YOUR debit card online and it is a nightmare to try and get your money back! Don't do it! I will never purchase annything online again. My money was drained out in 24 hours ($5000+) and I won't see a penny of it until the bank completes their investigation in 10 to 60 days. Meanwhile, I am destitute!

I always use my debit card on line! As long as your debit card has a VISA or mastercard logo on it, you can use it. The company uses it as a charge card but the money comes directly out of your checking.
