Don Quixote de la Mancha (now usually spelled Don Quijote by Spanish-speakers; Don Quixote is an archaic spelling) (IPA: [don ki'xote ð̞e la 'manʧa]) or El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha (The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha) is a novel by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Published in 1605, it is one of the earliest written novels in a modern European language and is considered by some to be the finest book in the Spanish language. [1]. Don Quixote is almost universally accepted to be the emblematic work of Spanish literature, and a classic of world literature.
The adjective "quixotic", at present meaning "idealistic and impractical", derives from the protagonist's name, and the expressions "tilting at windmills" and "fighting windmills" come from this story.
There are many adaptations of the book, mostly designed to modernise and shorten the text. One such adaptation is authored by Agustín Sánchez and runs to only 150 pages, cutting away about 750 pages.
The book tells the story about Don Quixote, a man who reads so many bad novels about brave knights that he decides to become one himself, to fight giants and save maidens.
The opening phrase of the book de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme (whose name I do not care to recall) was made famous by the book, and, along with other phrases from the text, has become a common cliché in modern Spanish.

You aren't going to be able to do an essay on Don Quixote without reading the book. Don Quixote has been likened to 'everyman', among others, and there is beautiful symbolism in his adventures and you will relate to the people in his world as well. Do yourself a favour and read the book. And if you don't feel up to reading the book, it is an excellent play. You may be lucky enough to find it on somewhere. And it was made into a movie. But please get closer to the source and don't just ask people for information you can plug into an essay. Believe me, whoever marks the essay will recognize the fact that you don't know what you are talking about.

I read the book three years ago. It's a classic. Funny, witting, and an easy read. Anyhow, Don Quixote was a lover of reading romance novels. He was so intrigue by those novels he decides he wants to save a maiden in distress. He picks a stable worker, Sancho, to go on this journey with him. Quixote is not an overly rich man, but he has some money and thus is respected in his small village. In total the book is about 1200 pages, it will take a while to sum it up, but the gist is he goes on a chivarly quest with Sancho as the knights did in the romance novels. Sancho calls Quixote "The knight with the long sorrowful face." Because Quixote wants to be a knight and he tries to behave like one. He's wacky and a lunatic but you still feel sympathy for him because his quest as a knight is a noble one.

wow you dont know who it is and you are trying to write an essay. That is pathetic. He is the guy who ran at windmills and tried to fight them because he was trying to relive the old times before using gunpowder.
