I found this insect on my patio and think it's just beautiful... never seen one before... I've posted the photo I took of it on my blo which is here... http://364days.blogspot.com/ ... take a look and let me know what this insect is. Hard to say from that photo. You really need a side view or 3/4 view as well. The detail just isn't even clear enough to whether it's a beetle, a bug or a moth from that photograph.

It looks to me like an Ailanthus webworm moth (Atteva punctella).

In their native Central and South America they feed on the paradise tree (Simarouba glauca), but in North America they have switched hosts to feed on the Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissma) which itself introduced to North America from China in the late 18th century.

They don't survive in cold conditions, but now regularily migrate up from the southern states across eastern North America each summer, even reaching eastern Canada.

They can sometimes become a minor pest in nurseries that are growing Tree-of-Heaven plants, but rarely do serious damage.

it looks like some sort of thrip maybe an onion thrip I enclosed this article
