The Bullets had a lot of excellent teams in the '70s.

Their best players on their championship team were Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes.

I'm thinking Unseld may have been MVP of the finals, but that's off the top of my head, and it could be wrong.

I remember rooting for the Bullets in that particular series (I was a Laker and Knick fan) and Seattle was up 3 games to 2 in the finals... Washington blew out Seattle by 30-something in game 6 at Washington, and then they won a close game 7 out in Seattle.

Rookie Greg Ballard was a key to the Bullets' victory, he played a great series (for a rookie)...

Bobby Dandridge (F), Mitch Kupchak (F) and Phil Chenier (G) were the other key members of that team.

I admired both Hayes and Unseld, especially Unseld. The Bullets and Knicks had some great, great playoff series' in the early/mid 70s, and the matchups between Wes Unseld and Willis Reed were epic! In one playoff game, Unseld had 34 rebounds and out-rebounded the entire Knick team... the next game, Willis Reed came back with 36 pts and 36 rebounds against Unseld... it was incredible.

The Knicks beat them in 7 games in 1970, then lost in 7 games in 1971... they met for five consecutive years in the playoffs...

I remember thinking how strange it seemed that Seattle was in the finals... they had pretty much mostly sucked during most of their history, in spite of having some rather good players here and there...

After beating Seattle in 7 games in 1978, Seattle came back and beat the Bullets in 5 games the following year... Dennis Johnson was the MVP of the 79 finals, and emerged as a star that year (Dennis had gone 0 for 14 from the field in game 7 the year before in Seattle's loss).

Then the Lakers drafted Magic Johnson, and Seattle's mini-'dynasty' was over real quick. The Eastern conference (where the Bullets play) was taken over by the Celtics and the 76ers. But during the 70s, the Bullets were one of the league's toughest teams to beat.

I wasn't even alive and i remember, the Sonics lost if im correct, Bullets were good. MJ had hoped to turn the Wizards into that kind of team.
