LOVE Dragonlance...several authors have written other series,
Douglas Niles, Richard Knack, Margret Weiss, and Tracy Hickman have also written a series called the DeathGate...good.
not Drangonlance...
MY favorite, outside the series, is an author named Mercedes Lackey...she has a series called the Free Bards...
{and several other totally awesome books}
LOVE her writing...two thumbs up...
also try Harry Potter for some good light reading, they are incredibly well written books..
.
oh oh and check out a young author..Christopher Paolini the books are titled Eragon and the Eldest...he was 17 when he began writing, his mom was his publisher!, and his books are AMAZING!! comprehensive world, excellent staying power, i felt the book was a little slow the first 50 pages but , WHAT A READ!!!!
anyway, stop by....have some coffee
they're all in my library.

Stephen Lawhead's the Song of Albion series. It's three books, not too long....very good. The Paradise War, The Silver Hand, The Endless Knot. It's Celtic fantasy based on some history and phonology, just like Tolkien.

Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and Grey Mouser books are very good, a lot of fantasy writing is done by people who have never picked up a sword in their lives, this is clearly not the case here... All of them have "Swords" in the title, so look for those.
I have to disagree with "Nihil" - Terry Brook's "Shannara" books are terrible! The first rips off LOTR in the worst way. The other two in the original trilogy use the bits of LOTR he didn't plagiarise the first time. After that he just got lazy.
"Magician" By Raymond E Feist is a good one. Unfortunately the remainder of that first trilogy of his don't quite live up to it.. And after those first three he just goes downhill, each successive book reads more and more like a straightforward account of his current RPG.
For quick and not-at-all taxing, try Michael Moorcock. The Elrond series is a good place to start. Chronicles of Corum another one to try..

David Gemmel's series about 'Druss the Legend', Raymond Feist, David Weber's War God series and his King of the Isles series, Dennis McKiernan's Warrow series, Ursela K. LeGuin's first series, Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone series. There are so many series out there that you should go to a used book store and check out what they have in stock. Robert E. Howard's Conan series with the cover art done by Frank Frazetta is truly awe-inspiring! Good Luck and Happy Reading.

Definitely check out the Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore, starting with the Dark Elf trilogy. These are some of the best books I've ever read. Drizzt is a great character and the stories are very fast-paced and fun. I'm not even a huge fantasy reader and I loved them.

Hi there. I have a new medieval fantasy book out that you might like. It has received excellent reviews in the national media and is being considered for a movie deal. The title is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you like Conan style books, you'll like this one. If you're looking for a Harry Potter type book, this is not for you.
If you'd like to try it out, I'll send you a FREE, 4 chapter eBook demo if you email me at FiveStarAuthor@aol.com. That way, you can see if you like the story or not without spending a dime. Cool huh?
Good luck, whatever you decide to read!

Eragon and it's sequal, Eldest, are great fantasy books. They're making Eragon into a movie that comes out in December, too, so you know it's gotta be decent if they want to make a movie out of it! The books are by Christopher Paolini, who was 15 when he started writing Eragon. You wouldn't guess it buy the writing, though!

If you like fantasy try the Dragon Jousters series by Mercedes Lackey. The first book 'Joust', is about Vetch a young serf who is rescued by a Dragon Jouster from his cruel master. He becomes a Dragon boy(one who takes care of dragons).Later he secretly hatches his own dragon. The later two books are about how he escapes to his native Alta and how the war between Alta and Tia ends. The setting is strongly Ancient Egypt although Alta and Tia are fictional.
Take a Thief by Mercedes Lackey is about a young boy Skif who is ill-treated by his relatives. He later falls in with a gang of thieves and becomes a master thief.Later he gets bonded with a talking horse and is admitted to a Herald's College.
Another good series is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books provide an alternate take on vampires.People who are unjustly murdered call upon Artemis(Greek goddess) and she grants them a day to avenge themselves. After that they are recruited to her army to fight against evil.Be warned, this one is romance.
The Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs is quite good. There are some 10 books in the series. The first few books are about John Carter who is magically transported to Mars.He falls in love with a Martian princess and has lots of adventures. The later books are about his descendents though John is usually present since the avg lifetime of a martian is 1000 years. The different cultures in Mars are awesume.
