Even the street layout of Washington D.C. has a masonic compass design, with the mall being between the 2 prongs of the compass (which are streets), and the capitol building being at the crux of the compass.

Yes, they have been in this country at least as long as our first president. Many books have associated them with the The Knight's Templar and the Priory of Sion. There is a theory that The Freemasons 'really' run the United States and not our 'obvious' government. There are many good books you can read on the subject. The one I have is called: FREEMASONS - INSIDE THE WORLDS OLDEST SECRET SOCIETY ---by PAUL JEFFERS. It's a very interesting tangled web, I urge you to read about them! One theory leads to another.

It is a secret society and always has been. You can join and work your way up. For instance, I met an older man with a 35 year ring on. I'll bet he knows a few things.
