Why do companies want to hire people with little skills/ability to advance versus people they see who have many skills and the ability to contribute in different parts of the organization? I am convinced that many companies do not want to hire people who may look too "ambitious" on their resumes, or hiring managers don't want to hire people with more education than they have! So...what do you think?

Many companies that I have advised to the contrary, still insist that hiring lesser experienced personnel, allows them to mold the person into the "functional employee" they desire, this in lieu of contracting personnel with previous work habits, (possibly bad), and professional training

In addition to a couple of the other good answers you have gotten let me add that budgetary concerns are always in mind. A less skilled new hire will be paid less than one with an impressive list of education/accomplishments/experience. Also, if you appear over qualified they may fear that you will become bored with the position. When a company that I worked for ran an ad for a filing clerk we got resumes from people who had been office managers at their previous position. I think there could be many reasons. Good luck in your hunt for the right job.

Managers want "team players". Those who are willing to learn!

If you come in with an impressive list of qualifications, they are highly suspicious of why you left the last location???
(Did you not get along? Too ambitious? Not a team player? Wanted too much?? Too good for your own britches and know it all??)

You see, they have a certain "knowledge" of people and they "know" what to look for when they hire some one.

Resume's are only a "start", its the actual interview that gets you 'there', or fails you miserably.

If you ask about thier "retirement policy", then they think your not going to be "good for the Company" and only there for the benefiets. Not a productive employee possibility...

If your too "eager", then they dont want to "fear for THIER JOB" :)

You should be neat, clean, no smelly cologne or overpowering scents. You should enunciate distinctly and not use "slang", or gutter language.

Dont fidget, or be too over anxious.. Be natural, be yourself, be at ease...It goes a long way.

I wish you well..

Jesse

Managers are hired because businesses are always in need of management so they don't get out of hand.I know this because I've watch businesses get out oh hand just because they are in need of management. Managers are an essential part of a any business.
