I think people have as much choice in their sexuality as they have in being born male or female, or in falling in love with one person and not another. I don't think there is a choice.

Let me begin by saying that whether you are gay or straight you have intrinsic value. You are precious in the sight of God and he cares dearly for you.
We were made in God's image and as such have the power to choose. Long ago, mankind chose to disobey God and at that moment, we became aware of "other things" and our nature also changed. The tendency to be gay is a human thing just like the tendency to lie, cheat, and so on. You may have gay feelings, but that doest make the gay lifestyle correct. You must choose to do what is Godly and God will enable you to do just that. The Bible is a manual for human existence and I urge you to read it. Even if you don't agree with what I have written, I will say that I care for all people, gay and straight because God loves us all. He does, however, hate our sin. The Bible says that because lack of knowledge people suffer. Homosexuality is a lie. Check out "exodus international," an ex-gay site.
Sincerely,
Mr. M

The nature/nurture debate with regards to homosexuality is a red herring. Conservatives don't really care how a person became gay, what they care about is the possibility of making them straight again, through bible readings, prayer, cold showers, lap dances, and anything else that comes to mind.
If a homosexual can choose to become a heterosexual, then that means that their current lifestyle is something they've chosen themselves, and moral judgments can be passed on them. And man, do those conservatives love judging people. It's like catnip to them.
But, if being gay is something inherent and inalterable - whether it's chemical, genetic, due to upbringing or something else enitrely - then no moral judgment can be passed on that person. That's unacceptable, because that means that the anti-gay lobby would have to consider being nice to gays occasionally.

I think they think that because it makes it easier for them. They want to be able to discriminate and spread hate without being held accountable for it.
Being gay myself, I know it is not a conscious choice. I don't understand why people won't listen to a primary source on the subject. There have been many studies that show a correlation between biological factors and homosexuality. Most of these discriminatory people, however, don't look at these studies and instead trust someone like a priest who hasn't done any scientific study on the subject.

This question is becoming so over used, it's rediculous!!!For the love of God, homosexuality has been around since the beginning of time people. Why do you think it is present today? Because it's been with us since humans walked the Earth. It being a choice or not isn't the point. The point is, that it exists, and it has always existed. Isn't that obvious? So if something has been around since the beginning, it's obviously a part of the human fabric. Please people, we really need to evolve as a species and shed the old, superstitious ways of thinking.

I believe people think we (I am gay) choose to be gay for a number of reasons:
1. They are religious and think that God has these set ways of thinking (if God [if there is a God] is supposed to be loving and caring, why would he send people to hell simply for their love?).
2. They are insecure about their own sexuallity, so they make fun of us to feel better about themselves.
3. They don't know any better because they're ignorant.
I never woke up one day and said "hey, I think I'll be gay!". It is something I discovered about myself.

some say they are gay
some say they are straight
isnt it irrelivant whether they made that choice or not?
People are who they are, you dont have to agree it for it to be any more real.
I know poeple who say that they have made that choice...and i know others who say that is just the way they were born, so i dont think that any answer achieved here would be definitive.
I think it was always more of a question that poeple in opposition ask them selves, some may find it easier, to believe that God did not make homosexuality. But thier fear should never be used against them, or used as an excuse for aggresion.
We all need to simply accept eachother as we are.

wheat her you choose to be gay or not you don't have to yield to sin. We all are born in sin and some of us are vexed with the wrong spirits. Since we all are capable of having something about us that isn't normal because we were born in sin then what make you think that you can't go to God with faith and ask for his help that he may put the right spirit in you. Many people are afflicted with physical, mental, verbal and the list goes on of countless afflictions. But God has said in scripture that "He" is able to pull us out of them all! Whatever the situation, the word in the bible tells us that it wrong to be gay. You didn't choose to be gay but you have a choice to make up your mind whether you want to continue on in sin. Maybe you can't do anything about it except pray for help if you want it and what is impossible with man is possible with God. I didn't choose to be born with a sinful nature also but I seeked God's face and he heard me because He looked into my heart and knew that I really wanted to be saved so he helped me to change. The question is do you want to stay in that unnatural state that you are in? The Gay people has got to stop making up excuses for their afflictions and ask God to help to change them spiritually and into a natural (normal) state. He will do it if you want it.

because they r small minded idiots who cant understand anything outside they re tiny insignificant world. What u gotta think about is that it is mostly religious people that believe this, the ones who r supposedly most excepting and r supposed to leave the judging up to god, maybe they should leave gay people alone and start practicing what they preach!
