Yes. There is the school of thought that says that since they retire in theor early 30's they essentially have 10 or 15 years to make their money and for many this is true, professional footballers rarely have a full compliment of qualifications (though that does not mean they are stupid). However, things are clearly out of control. Forget the top earners, even 20,000 a week is a million a year - 600,000 after tax, poor dears.

I believe they get paid way to much, just like the American football players in the NFL. I say everyone should have a base salary and let them make money of endorsements and other non game related entities.

No... nobody is made to pay their wages. Its not as if the money comes out of our taxes... I can think of several politicians who take the pee far more than any football player.
Besides,if you were offered a few million for doing a job you loved and got all the perks with it would you honestly say no thank you I think that you are offering me way too much money?
No, I didn't think so!
There but for the grace of God go I....!

It's hardly just kicking ball about, it's constant training, having to deal with lack of privacy, being the target of tabloid scourn...
It's not 90 minutes a week and that's it, it's every second of their life with only a couple of weeks off in the summer time depending on international commitments.

Yes! It's obscene how much they are paid, I think there should be a pay limit of, say £100k per year. Any money they receive from sponsorship is fine. Although I love the game, they won't be getting any of my hard earned that's for sure!

i think this is a yes and no answer, yes it is a crazy amount of money, i know the have great skill but sure it would better for doctors and nurses, firemen and other people like that to et paid big money but on the other hand the do bring alot of joy uinto peoples lives from watching them and i would rather see the players getting the big money than the clubs chairmen, after its the players that entertain us.

I would expect to get paid that much if 40-70,000 people paid £40-50 a time to watch me play!

Yes, they get paid way too much. I thought the point of being a professional athlete was to have a job you loved, not to be greedy and stuck up.

They get paid far too much, and it has a savage effect on regular people who want to support their team by the offset cost of huge ticket prices.

yes! its rediculous how much they get paid. its supposed to be a sport, something u do because u like it! its all about the money, i bet they wouldnt bother if they got paid an average wage for it and it makes me sick how much they get when there are charities crying out for money and hospitals needing equipment. i think they are way, way over paid.
