The character is a dark type male high school student. He is handsome, but has an attitude problem against other people. He gets into fights and enjoys tormenting other people for their pain because he believes all humans are animals. I don't want to give away too much. It seems cliche for now, but I will give it a twist. I would like some suggestions, but an automatic 10 points goes to someone who can give me a good way to come up with my own names.

hope people don't mind, but I would like reasons or meanings to back it up.

I understand baby names, but some of them sound so lame, cliche, or doesn't have the feel of the story.

Keep up the good suggestions. I have the general story mapped out, but I am missing small details such as names and titles.

He's supposed to be a rather rough character from otherwise a normal middle class background.

Get a baby naming book and scan through it for names. The best kind to get is one that also gives you the meanings of the name. This way you can find a name that will suggest what your character is like, or a name that has a sound that describes him and also reflect who he is.
For example, in the Forsyte Saga, the name reflects and describes the foresight shown by one character, Soames Forsyte. Given names often have meanings; eg Albert = Noble One; Margaret = Pearl, and so on.
You could also invent a name for your character using anagrams or using initials, like Fights And Torments Everybody He Sees = Safeth; or Big Officious Goof = Bog

I think that its best to watch TV shows that include school life which usually include a Bully kinds of people. Also use personal experiences.
I believe that a book should be captivating and something can't let go of the reader's mind. So are the characters! So think of a name that will capture the readers mind. So try a name that should be simple and is suiting the personality traits of the character . you know when you meet a person, you can make a "sketch" of the person's name by his/her personality.
So, think of the name that first pops up when you think of the character. hope it works out for u!

It depends on the ethnicity of the character, but here are some ideas from a fellow writer. The character gives me an idea of a European sort.
Last name: Stanislaus, or something else with an S sound. Other odeas: Salinowski, Sorensen, Salle, La Salle.
First name: Conrad, or something else unique and somewhat snobbish and prestigous.
Other ideas: Desmond, Dermot, Gustav, Franchesco, Ishmael, Hughe, Japheth, Jerome, Jasper, Karl.

I can't actually suggest a name, because creating a character in a story is a personal thing and you should think of your own.
so...
A way to figure out what to name characters is to go on a baby-naming website (try google.com to find one) and looking at the definitions of the names. That way you can find a name which means the personality of your character.

When trying to find a name (especially a pseudonym or pen name) use your middle name and the street you grew up on as the last name. Mine would be William Claude for instance. So I would use Bill or Billy for your character.

Here, I use this program when I can't come up with character names:
http://mikeinside.modthesims2.com/family/index.html
Free, easy to use, all that jazz.
The first name that came to mind was Kalen or Kaden. Kaden comes from Hebrew. It means "faithful" and "bold".
