My two best friends were datting (don't worry they were a boy and a girl). So my guy friend broke up with my girl friend and my girl friend is very depressed. My guy friend is being kind of harsh about the break up so I told him to stop being so mean, but now he's mad at me because I'm talking to his ex. I need to be there for my girl friend becuase she's really depressed. I don't know how to make her feel better with out saying my guy friend is a jerk, and I still really want to be friends with both. What should I do?

Don't worry about them saying that you shouldn't be friends with someone. Be friends with both. Find your "girlfriend" a new thing to worry about, like spend lots of time with her to get her mind off him. If he is being a jerk, I don't understand why he would break up with her and then be a jerk like that, he must be immature, forget him, let him do what he wants to do. If he doesn't want to be your friend because your friends with his ex, don't be his friend. Tell him that she IS your friend, and he should just forget about it.
Thats what i would do.

Tell your guy friend that you are loyal to your friends and you're not going to just stop talking to your girl friend because he wants you to. He's being a bit childish.

As for your girl friend, tell her that they were just not meant to be together. It is better that they broke up now, rather than later when she might have much stronger feelings for him. The only thing that will get her through this is time. Being a good friend, you can just schedule some girl's nights in with movies and fun stuff. Going out with her is fine, too- just make sure she doesn't hook up with strangers while she's on the rebound. Ultimately, she will regret it.

Sorry, your guy friend is a jerk.

If he was really your friend, he shouldn't care who you are friends with and he has absolutely no right to be mad at you. If he was a friend, he would understand that you should be there for your girlfriend because she needs you now. Tell him that if he values you're friendship then should understand that you want to be there for your girlfriend and you rightfully should be.

Remember, a real friend would never judge you and never demand action or choice from you that you weren't comfortable with (we aren't talking about intervention here for drugs or alcohol).
