Maybe you can put most of it towards a bank account. Open a savings account or a high yield fund and save for college. Or, you can take a portion of it and buy yourself something really nice like something in the electronic category, clothes, etc. Whatever you decide, make sure you have some saved.
Happy Birthday?

Better get a Jenn-Air for a thousand first. Get a hot tub next. Maybe spend $3K on that. Buy a new wardrobe with the rest!

Buy yourself a reasonable, nice gift ... jewelry maybe ... and then send the rest of the money to me so I can buy a newer working reliable car ... so I can take better care of my 83 year old mother , my retarded granddaughter, and myself (without the worry of my $700., "as-is" purchased, P.O.S. car breaking down on the road and leaving me stranded).
I sincerely hope you have a Happy Birthday ... but most of us don't have the option you have in spending that much money on ourselves! Life always busts in on most of us and gives us a wake-up call as to how we must prioritize our spending ... like on food and utilities, and all that life and death stuff!
Enjoy it while you've got it! You are blessed to have so much!
This should be your Motto ... "There but for the grace of God go I"

A 'limit' of 5 thou for your own Bday??? (!!!)
Why think about it - just do what you want! However, you may want to think about investing some of it for security on those 'older' birthdays...
