i am asking why "A" and not a letter like "C" or "L" ?

"A" for A, B, C's ...
Just like the "1" lights up for Number Lock instead of "#"

"A" seems like a good place to start!

So you will know it is in the "caps" mode. Especially when you are typing in passwords you can see if you have it on so you won't have to be asked again for your password. They are usually in lower case.

....and 'alpha" is short for "alphabet". Only the alphabet keys are affected while the "shift' key affects other keys as well
