I have been a hairdresser for 15 yrs and yes you can!!! The reason why people say not to is because the fumes can make you light headed. When I was prego and colored my hair I just put a mask on my mouth when I colored my hair or when I did someone elses hair.
Just be careful....sometimes when you are prego the hormones in your system make it somewhat impossible to get that perfect color...You may not get what the box says you will get or what the hairdresser says you will get. It depends on your horomones and the prenatels also make a difference in your chemicals in your hair!

I looked at a lot of resources online plus I also asked my doctor this same question. She said it was prefectly fine for me to get my hair colored, paint the baby's room and stuff like that.
So I did get my hair colored about a month ago and all is well. No harm done.
I also used to be a licensed cosmetologist and there was nothing that said that you couldn't color pregnant womens hair. No warnings, nothing.
While you're getting your hair colored, it is a good idea to have the room ventilated, so the fumes don't make you nauseated.
Ask your doctor just to be sure, if that'll make you feel better about it. Also read the below articles that I linked to, they along with my doctors approval helped me in making my decision!

I am pregnant and asked my Dr if it was OK to dye my hair he informed me that it was OK as long as i was in a well ventilated room, but I would at least wait till after the first trimester, after all the organs have formed and stuff.
And I would get it done professionally too, i tried the stuff in the box because that's what I've always used and it didn't come out like it use to because of all the extra hormones, but a beautician should know what he/she is doing...

They claim that the first three months of the pregnancy, one is to avoid any chemicals but that after you are almost at the end then you should be ok... But it is a chance that I feel that we mothers should not take as we never know if things could go wrong just because you want to dye your hair... So, just wait and do not put your baby in danger...

The jury is still out on whether the chemicals in the dye is harmful to the child or not. If you decide to color your hair, it is best not to do it in the first trimester. Also you might want to consider frosting, highlighting, or painting your hair. That way the dye is absord in to the hair and not the scalp.

Well there's a couple reasons why you shouldn't...
First - the fumes suck...and you're so sensative to smells they are that much worse and gross
Second - The fumes aren't exactly safe...so if you can avoid it...I would (I have avoided it, I'm 21 weeks prego now)...if you use semi permenant with no ammonia might be alright...but then ..why bother..lol
Third - Because you're going through a lot of chemical changes right now...youre less likely to get a "true die" ...you're color may come out a little funny...so if you're gonna do it...be prepared for it not to come out exactly like you expected...I've seen colors not "taking" on pregnant women ...same thing with perms or other chemical treatments....
I'm holding out till baby's out and that's my first "girls' day out" after baby...I'm going to the salon and getting my hair done! lol
Good luck!

Yes you can dye your hair. I homeworked it when I was pregnant. The only way it can hurt the baby is if you are doing it every 2-3 weeks. Once or twice is OK.

You shouldn't . There are carcinogens in hair dyes (especially the darker colors) Its not worth the risk. Just wait til baby is here!!

You are not supposed to dye your hair while pregnant. Ask your doctor before you listen to the people here who are saying it is ok.

yes you are allowed to dye, perm, or straighten your hair while you're expecting. Just be in a well ventilated room. Good luck and congrats!
