Perhaps it's your soil. Try using a soil testing kit, and add ammendments as needed.

Mine grow great in the shade and NOT in the sun. Hosta's do not like lots of sun.

We love hostas and grow several different types. Slugs, roll-up bugs and deer also love hostas, one of these could be your problem. For the bugs use slug bait,follow directions, if its deer...good luck.

I too live in the ohio valley. Our summers are hot and HUMID!!!! These plants need shade.Are you planting in the sun? Tell us more of whats going on and we may be able to help you more.
