I am sick of seeing 'scally' flags flown from council estate cars and white vans. I am told it is patriotic - in that case why aren't they flown all year round? England are not going to win the World Cup (fact) so why do we have this palava every year from English imbeciles? I was born in England by the way, so know exactly what the mentality is. St George's cross = chavs and thuggery. Discuss.

I think the one thing thats worse than England flags flown from cars are England flags which have "ENGLAND" written over the middle of the Cross of St George - flown from cars. The flag itself represents England and obviously doesn't need the name of the country written over it!

I also find it quite moronic how a few years back it seemed England fans didn't even know what flag to fly at these events and would be displaying Union flags.

Now it's so widespread that everyone who wants to look like a "lad" sticks a few flags up from their cars. By all means support England but dont stick those cheap little Halfords England flags upon your car roof - they also suck up fuel economy and can be a hazard when they eventually fly off...I had to drive around one which was rolled up in the road...it was only when I drove past it and saw it was a little flag that I had a little laugh to myself.

As far as the England flag representing thuggery and "chavs" , I think thats a little biased, based on a few token individuals who give the country a bad name by not being able to hold their drink.

You have a good point there, several actually. But do not be too sure that England won't win the World Cup. England is not good enough to win it but I honestly feel that it is FIXED for England to win the World Cup this time. Politics !! We will see many yellow cards being shown early in games so that red ones are a certainty a little later in the games... OR too harsh decisions to send players off and so reduce the strength of a team increasing the chances of the other team to win. OR... disallowing perfectly good goals, as it happen in 2002 to Spain against Sth Korea, OR awarding undeserved penalties... OR the giving of free-kicks very close the goal of the other team OR ignoring other fowls that would be TOO detrimental to the team you are trying to help win. These are all things done in the past to ensure that a game takes a particular direction. This could be why there is a strong resistence to the introduction of electronic devises into football, to video shots being used before a major penalty is awarded, the same electronic devices and video cameras being used in other sports, for if they were introduced, like major decisions only being made based on camera shots rather than by undisputed referee decisions, then match fixing could never take place !!

I put two flags on my car today, I also have one outside my house, I wear and England cap and England football shirt. I am a qualified Further and adult education teacher. I don't possess a white van. (just giving you a vague idea)
Why do I fly them?? two reasons mainly. In support of my countries attempt to win the world cup and increasingly because it really pisses the politically correct bunch off.
Oh by the way we only go through this "palava" every 2 years. Gives you a year off in between. Be Happy....... TRY

They are tacky. But so is some peoples lack of national pride!

I back England and many do fly the English flag all year round but without looking further than "white vans & council estate cars" you probably didn't notice.

I'm English and proud of it. I don't look for the worst in my country and I don't find it. I will back the football team right until the go out of the tournament!

It' s people like you that sum up the direction this country is going in. Fair enough if you think the flags are tacky, but i'm pretty sure not everyone who has one on their car is an 'imbecile'. What is wrong with people wanting to show their support for their country. Sporting events are one of the only chances we have left to show this, as at any other time we would be branded 'racist' , or accused of inciting hatred, for flying our country's flag. And no, I don't have a flag on my car.

I agree with you 100%. Don't get me wrong I think its great England is in the World Cup. But,I also think the English are showing there flag waving Patriotism for the wrong reason.

You have English troops in the Middle East right now putting their lives in Danger who would greatly appreciate the flag being shown for them. It seems the USA appreciate thier troops more and are not afraid to show it.

Its called supporting our football team, it isn't a fact that we won't win, it may be highly likely but it definitely isn't a certainty and you don't see this palava every year at all the world cup is every four years also as far as mentality goes you didn't have enough common sense to do your research properly, before you started spouting your nonsense! did you ?

Those flags coming out of car windows are doing my head in... I'm all for showing pride in the team but, you are right, it is just another symbol of blatant chavery.. I don't believe that it grants the bearer the right to be loud and obnoxious ( I apologise to all those who have flags but don't fit into this mould, but really,... think about what this says about you, show patriotism in better ways) .......Also I HATE that these people are turning my flag into something I feel ashamed of... Grr.
