To win the case, you have to prove negligence on the part of the college. If the accident is caused by you not watching where you are going, or you were distract, then you are the one negligent. Proving negligence on the part of the college is going to be real hard, because for example, you slipped on spilled coffee. How are you going to prove whose coffee made you fall? If it is spilled and left there by students, the college janitorial staff is obligated to mop it up to prevent an accident from happening, but establishing the time frame from the time the coffee is spilled to the reasonab;le time frame it should have been moped up is going to be hard, if not impossible to prove. I would just drop the whole thing myself.

An incident report should be filed, yes, but before you go any further than that, you should probably consider whether or not you fell down the stairs due to anyone's negligence. Did someone place some grease or oil on the stairs without placing a warning sign nearby? Were the stairs badly lit so that nearly anyone could fall down them?
If it appears as though someone was negligent and that negligence is the cause of your fall, then it may be time to seek legal damages.

Slip and fall cases are extremely hard to win in court. Most lawyers won't accept them anymore unless there's a clear case of negligence and most doctors will no longer accept a P.I. (personal injury) lien for treatment on a slip and fall case. You should file the incident report with the college. Someone should contact you within 24 to 48 business hours with more information from there. You can try to consult an attorney but I think you'll find it a trying encounter.

If you are considering pursuing this legally, presumably you think they did something wrong; what is it they did wrong exactly? Having stairs?
In my opinion, your next steps should be seeing your doctor, paying for it, and getting well. Their next steps are probably employing lawyers in case you decide to irrationally sue them.
Unless there are details you didn't provide. If a groundskeeper for the school comes by hourly to sprinkle ball bearings at the top of the stairs, that is a different matter.

First, file the incident report since there may be some time sensitivity. Second, see an attorney.

If there was something loose or damaged that caused you to fall, something that the school knew about but neglected to fix, then yes you may have a case. If it was just a misstep that was nobody's fault, then sorry, you'll have to chalk it up to an accident.

Follow up with the college.
Ask for a copy of their paperwork.
You should also contact the Human Resources Dept. and see what the school policy states about accidents.

just because your an accident waiting to happen doesn't mean you have the right to sue. Take responsibility for your own actions. You must be a meanspirited (nice word for *****) person. It was your fault. I don't think the stairs did anything to you. I guess your parents are pieces of **** too for raising someone like you who cannot think for themselves. Please don't breed.
