In Britain, theres a man trying to get obese people to pay taxes for their condition, cos apparently they put a strain on society.

Personally, I think hes just getting a bit upset by the smoking ban.

What do you guys think?

Honestly, they might as well tax eating disorders, diability, depression etc...

They are trying to do the same thing in the USA. But they would tax restaurants and food service companies for serving food that is "judged" to be outside USDA guidelines.
This is done in connection with the smoking bans...It has to do with the theory that everyone is accountable for actions of others yet no one is responsible for their own actions.

There's a fat tax in Britain? Wow! What's the world coming to? I figure, if ur not harming anyone by ur actions, then why put a ban on something? Being fat only harms THAT person directly, and their family. The govt doesn't really have any hardships. It would be different if the person's insurance covered lipo, and the person went in every year or somethng like that, but smoking kills. I hear Dana Reeve(Superman's wife), died of second hand smoke, and she never smoked a day in her life. So, now, because of pollutants and second hand smoke, her teenage son is an orphan(biological parents gone).

People who allow themselves to become obese are a net drain on society. They are causing themselves major health problems as they get older ( heart disease, diabetes, joint problems, etc. ). If, as is often the case, they cannot pay for their own health care, the rest of society will have to pay via taxes. I'm not sure a "fat tax" is the best solution, but if it works ... !

What's next? Are they going to decide that some of us breath too much? Do we shed our dead skin cells all over? Perhaps they don't think people with brown eyes should be allowed to hold a full-time job. They take your rights away from you and you don't know what to think?
