Last question first: No I don't like fighting.
First question last: The UK is no more violent than it has ever been. The difference is the coverage it receives, in the media, through film and everday acceptance.
In the past violent people went into careers where violence was acceptable in certain situations: soldiering, boxing, policing, slaughterman, jailer etc. Violent people outside of those professions were just thugs and vilified accordingly.
Nowadays violence is glorified, thugs get kudos and media coverage. Think of Stan Colymore, Gaza, just to name a couple of famous violent faces.
As a society we have become indulgent of violence in civilian situations, but vilify those in 'proper' situations where violence might be more justified.

You would need to define the terms of violence first of all and then gather sufficient information as to the nature of the violence that you wish to record. To generalise about it is difficult.
It is generally a very difficult thing to do as depending upon how far you go back historically. What may or may not be described as violence and the way in which it is recorded and reported has changed enormously. The Old Testament records incidents of horrific violence but how you would measure that against modern values would prove difficult! Violence now I think may be no more or less prevalent than it has been at any other time in history, but what has changed is the public perception of it. Mass media has meant that specific incidents receive much more publicity than they would have even just 20-30 years ago and so the public perception of it is much heightened. You must also factor in changes in law, for example having sex with a 12 year old would now be considered a breaking of the law through a violent act but it is only just over a hundred years ago that this would have been perfectly legal.
No I don't approve of fighting as it never resolves anything and can only produce more resentment and fear which are the root causes of violence.

I don't think the UK is more vioent than it has been in the past considering the number of times we have been invaded and conquered. Even going back a hundred years or so it was perfectly acceptable to resolve a dispute by violence and people carried weapons legally. That's no longer the case and although we have gun crime, muggings etc, actually it's probably far safer to walk the streets late at night now than it was 200 years ago.

Yes, it is violent and getting more violent. In the future we will have went "full circle" back to the days of old when weapons where carried by all and eventually we'll return to our caveman mentality !!!!

To the dear Ladies and gentlemen, who spent considerable time in putting forward a reasoned answer to Mark's question.....
Mark is not one of those intellects who will sit and ponder, rather if you've looked at his previous questions, you'd realise that he is begging for a fight.
He believes in violence and fancies a game of fisticuffs.
My suggestion would be for Mark to punch a cop, next time he bumps into one. When they toss him into one of HM's residences around the country, he'll be more at home with the kind of people, who by nature are prone to violence.
