No, religion should stay out of politics. I could swear the Constitution said so.

No. Religion of course has a say in politics and law as our law is defined by what religion has taught us. E.g. Monogomy - is a very Christian thing and is the law in Christian countries. Also religion is a man's need and politics is there to administer to man's needs. Also there are political parties which have a strong religious base - like Hizbollah (party of God) and Christian democrats etc.

So why I say we need no religion on politics section? Politics is all about land - our country and its trade and lawa and international policy. Dont you think our country is Geographical? But we never put geography into this section? Do we?

cheers

Separation of church and state is a very Miss-understood concept. Many ignorant people (several who have tried to answer this question) do not understand that it is not lawful for the government to sponsor a religion (force every citizen to have the same official religion).

Idiots love to say that you can't have a Christian president or you can't have laws that represent Christian values. Idiots love to say you can't pray in public school. I think those same idiots should move to a country that has state sponsored religion and see how they like their quality of life without the influence of Christian values. Maybe they would like having no rights and being put in prison for expressing their ideas.

Some of you should read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights some time for yourselves and learn what is really written there.

No, because religion and politics should remain separate. The fact that certain religious leaders don't like losing their power and influence, and so manipulate politics to keep it doesn't mean that sort of behaviour should be encouraged. The fact that somebody got their opinions from an old book instead of a rigorous examination of the facts makes that opinion much less, not more, deserving of airing and protection from ridicule.

unfortunately the POS followers of that particular "unnamed religion" do not acknowledge the constitutional amendment of separation of church and state and form one of the most powerful anti-freedom lobbies in the US.

Furthermore it wouldn't be so bad if they even respected and followed their own religion concerning how do treat people that are different than themselves. Instead these people preach hate, call people of other religions evil and protest at military funerals about how we are being punished for being nice to gay people. Oh and I almost forgot "thou shall not kill", there is a big on. How many Iraqi people have we killed for doing nothing but defending their own country from our invasion.

but no religion and politics do not mix. So do the USA a true service and elect people to office that are impartial to religion instead of the religious nutcases that are currently running our country.

One could argue that a person's religion is a strong part of who they are, their character. Therefore, when you elect them as leader, you get this part of their character as well. In this way I believe that religion has a part in politics.

Let me know what you think.

Considering the Constitution does not ban religion at all, that was a misunderstanding thanks to Thomas Jefferson in a letter to a church, I think religion can be mixed in politics, considering it always is anyway...especially with the gay rights buiseness

Religion and Politics are separate.
If any religious leader go into politics, leave this guy. He loves power, and will manipulate you. He will make you feel guilty and low.
