NOTHING
Take the baby to the doctor. There are a few serious childhood diseases that have rash as a symptom. Even if the child does not have any of them, the Dr. can help figure out what is causing the rash, how to treat it, and how to stop it from happening again.
FYI - could also be a food or material allergy.

NO!!! Not petroleum Jelly!!! It coats the area and doesn't allow it to breathe. The rash or redness is there probably because your baby is teething or salivating, or putting things arounnd their mouth. Just keep it clean and dry and wash your baby's mouth with a little water and pat dry. It always works for my son!!! If it's a more serious rash, though, you might want to ask your child's pediatrician.

I think you should bring the baby to his or her doctor and make sure the baby does not need a Rx for the rash

Do you know what kind of rash it is? It could be thrush or impetigo. If that's the case you need a prescription from your doctor. If it's just from drooling or is eczema, a small amount of hydrocortisone works wonders along with keeping the area as clean and dry as possible.

I found out that my newborn was sensitive to something in my breastmilk, so I discontinued dairy products, and the rash got better.
Also, she was seen by a regular doc and by a GI specialist due to GERD (acid reflux) with Sandifer's Syndrome (seizure-like symptoms). Finally, they told me that she definitely is sensitive to proteins, not just from cow's milk, but also from soy.
Furthermore, sometimes the friction from the nipple against the face can irritate the skin a bit, so you may just want to use the lanolin cream that breastfeeding mom's use and dab a tiny tiny bit on her cheeks. (Wal-mart carries this cream in their baby section...amazon.com also sells it)
After I started using the breast cream, my baby's face cleared up beautifully and healed up very quickly.

Yes, I agree they say to try and keep the area clean and dry. My daughter had a rash and we tried Aquaphor by the makers of Eucerin and it seemed to really help. Try to keep your child ingesting the ointment but it should help.

Just keep it dry and clean should clear up by itself don't really want to put something on a baby face unless given to you by a Dr

When my first son was born our dr. recommended to use AQUAPHOR on his rash. It can be bought over the counter at Walmart. It worked well...
