You are supposed to have a bunch of things running under processes. The vast majority of those things are windows processes. If you think there are programs running that shouldn't be, get a spyware/malware remover such as SpyBot, or AdAware. Another good thing to do is go into Add/Remove programs, and "Remove" anything that you don't use. Just make sure you find out what it is before you remove it. It's not unusual to have that many processes running...in fact, right now I have over 50.

What makes your pc run slow is the amount of stuff you have in your internet cache. Temporary files and cookies.

I suggest you go to "tools", "internet options", "delete files"...then set your history for about "2" days (delete history). All that stuff takes up a huge amount of memory.

You can also go to "programs" "accessories" "system" and run your defrag program...may take an hour or so but it will make your pc run faster.

Also...go to "my computer"...right click on "local disk c:" , click on "properties"....it shows a pie chart and down below it says "disk cleanup"....click on that and let the system clean itself.

Good Luck
p.s. I wouldn't fool with your startup programs unless you really know what you are doing.

Believe it or not that really isn't alot...I have definatley seen more. You could go into your MSCONFIG and deselect any programs that you can live without...most of what you see is required. Look to see if programs like real player, quicktime, adobe, winamp etc.. are set to autostart, if they are deselect them. Start, Run..type if MSCONFIG and go to the startup tab.
