that smell is everywhere. You need to paint, get rid of carpet, sometimes it can even absorb into the walls....paint, remodel, burn (im just kidding)

You have some good answers here for that problem, but some are rather costly like replacing carpet etc. What have you wiped your walls and ceilings with? Have you ever tried Murphy's Oil Soap? That is good for walls and ceilings and leaves a pleasant odor. My girl friend used to work for a buisness that dealt with smokey areas as you have. She said in order to rid the home from the smell of smoke. A) Stop smoking or stop having other people smoke in your home and B) Use Murphy's Oil Soap with 1/2 cup of lemon extract with your water. That will make your home smell a lot better. Good luck to you! Hope this works out for you!

We just moved into the same situation. Just fill your bathtub up with OxyClean and hot water. Take a sponge mop and just start scrubbing the walls (don't forget the ceilings). After all that, go buy some Kilz from the local hardware store and paint it all over the walls. It's white so your landlord won't care. Kilz will cover anything, including smells!

Wash the walls down with scented pinesol, spray your carpet with a product called out, it can be purchased in the pet section of most stores, it is made for pet urine odors, wash all curtains and anything made of fabric. Purchase some liquid potpourri and use it in a simmering potpourri pot. I actually use the liquid potpourri in a glass with a thick bottom on it and set it on one of the little electric candle warmer deals that you can purchase at Walmart also get the liquid potpourri there too.

Mix some pine sol and water in small bowls and leave it setting around in the house. It really works.

Wiping is not going to do it. Get to painting and replacing carpet, that is the only way.
