Tendons connect muscles to bones. For example, your Achilles' tendon connects your foot to your calf muscles. Ligaments, on a side note, connect muscles to other muscles.

The reason you are able to move you limbs is because of tendons. You have voluntary control over your muscle contractions, but all they do is contract...not very useful...unless that flexing can be converted into work. Your tendon like a string tied to your muscle so that when you contract it, it pulls on your bone/limb and causes it to move. The harder you flex, the faster it moves.

it's been awhile since i've studied anatomy, but i think tendons connect muscles to bones.
