What is the exact purpose of the overhead ("Oh S**t") handles? Why doesn't the driver have one?

i think its for the handicap people so hey can get in and out of the car.

Getting in and out of the car is the primary use of these handles. The ones in the back can also be used to hang clothes. I guess the driver doesn't have one because he can use the steering wheel.

Yes. Any and all purposes you can think of. The driver doesn't have one because his/her hands should both be on the wheel all the time while driving, without an obstructed view.

all of the above, the driver has the steering wheel, but some cars have them for the driver ... mine does
