I love books and I've read many of the classics, some heavy literature, a lot of best sellers, or even the fun chicklites. But lately I can not get into any book. I can't seem to be able to get into anything that's too slow-paced or too heavy, yet anything I pick up that's supposed to be a "light" read, reveals to be a pointless waste of time. Have you read a book you got hooked on lately??

Books by David Sedaris are great. Each chapter is a different story so you can pick it up whenever you want. He is funny and insightful, looking back on his weird, eccentric family. He writes about drugs and being gay though, so if this would offend you for some reason, then maybe avoid him. I thought his stories about coming out were the most profound and hilarious though.

i recommend Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, if you haven't read it yet. it's a fast read and it's very insightful, i've seen it called the fable of life. another good one by Coelho is By the River Piedra, I Sat Down and Wept. it's about childhood sweethearts who met again after several years, the woman still unsure about her path in life, and the man faced with the decision of going into priesthood or making a life with the woman he loves.

and there's this children's book called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. it's about a teenage girl who has a huge problem and she doesn't know who to turn to and how to deal with it, so she decided to stop speaking.

if you like sci-fi and fantasy better check out Dresden files book series by Jim Butcher. It narrates the story of Harry Dresden, chicago's only professional wizard. He stands between the general population who is ignorant about the supernatural world and the monsters-vampires,werewolves,fey.He is aided by Bob,a talking skull.Karrin Murphy-a police officer and Thomas-a white court vampire.

Another good series is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books provide an alternate take on vampires.People who are unjustly murdered call upon Artemis(Greek goddess) and she grants them a day to avenge themselves. After that they are recruited to her army to fight against evil.Major romance alert.

Reilly's Luck by Louis L'Amour. Its a western.A young boy is abandoned by his own mother(she tells her boyfriend to kill him)The boy ends up with a gambler and he brings him up.Turns out to be the best gamble he ever made. The boy grows up and later kills the people who murdered the gambler.

If you like fantasy try the Dragon Jousters series by Mercedes Lackey. The first book 'Joust', is about Vetch a young serf who is rescued by a Dragon Jouster from his cruel master. He becomes a Dragon boy(one who takes care of dragons).Later he secretly hatches his own dragon. The later two books are about how he escapes to his native Alta and how the war between Alta and Tia ends. The setting reminds you of Ancient Egypt.

For a great laugh read Lynsay Sand's vampire romance 'single white vampire'.
