my car for example has no reverse or park and i was told it might be the switch that caused it because it went out so suddenly.

my car will not shift into reverse, i have to put it into neutral and push it. as for parking it i have to leave it in neutral and use the emergency brake. it just happened on day to the next. i never had any kind of transmission problem with it before. just came home from work and it wouldn't shift into park.

The neutral safety switch is a device that won't let you start your car unless it is in neutral or park. If this was bad your car shouldn't start. It doesn't sound like a switch or an internal transmission problem. I would check the linkage for proper adjustment, and make sure nothing is broke or bent and that all the bushings are in good shape. One thing you can do to check the linkage adjustment is start the car, put it into reverse and have someone look and see if the back-up lights come on.

When the switch goes bad, The car will not start. Have only heard of 1 car that started with bad switch. Also how can you drive and WHY would you drive a car that has no park or reverse?

Sounds like your going to have to take your car in to the shop. There are a number of things here. Could be a broken piece in your steering column. not allowing the shifter to go up(park and reverse)

Neutral safety swithch allows you car to start the car in park only, if it starts in any other gear , then the switch is defective. This is not the problem, your problem i believe is in the transmission. How many miles on the trans? Possibly linkage damage or bent, If linkage is good, then i would recomend you going to a good reputable automatic transmission repair shop, such as Ammco.

Your switch has nothing to do with your transmission which tells your car to go backwards park. Something doesn't make sense.

That is the device that won't allow your car to start unless it is in park or neutral. Perhaps it is tied to other things as well.

no reverse could be internal transmission. What do you mean by no park, can't put it into park? Putting into park will not hold vehicle?
