Actually Yes the movie was. If you watch the new one the police footage at the end is the real footage that was documented afterwards. And yes Leather face is real but police have not found him yet. he got the name because he wore other peoples faces to cover up a skin disorder on his face.

It was to a certain Extent. The Actual Events Took place in Kentucky. And The killer still hasent been Found yet. Also The Killer wasent Named Leatherface. The name is mainly based on the fact that the guy used a Chainsaw to kill people, really i think its the only thing that they have in commen. I cant Wait til Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2: The Beginning with Taylor Handley comes out!!!!

It was loosely based on Ed Gein. However- he only murder 3 or 4 people butthe leatherface and the chairs etc came from the fact that he would often dig up graves and exhume bodies and dressed up in the skins of the dead. He had a chair made out of female genitalia and a belt made up of nipples.
He was also the basis of the films psycho, silence of the lambs and many others
www.crimelibrary.com and search Ed Gein might be a good idea

of course it was, leatherface was my neighbour back in the day, always was a bit quiet, had this thing about killing cats. Always thought that he would make it big in life, even had a film based on it. I am annoyed that they didnt portray me as the young stud that i am. they gave my role to a weirdo in a wheelchair. but i had to pull good olde leathery to one side and tell him that one film was enough and the sequels suck. He currently is working in burger king on the island of kong, they pay him in raw meat and new blades for his chainsaw

Yes it was loosely based on actual events. I believe Leatherface was at least partly based on truth.

Aaron W is correct. It was based loosely on Ed Gein. He lived in Wisconsin in the 50's. He actually only killed 2 people, but when police went in his house they found parts of people he had dug up from the local cemetery. He had mad those parts into furniture and such. He also made a "woman suit" from his mothers skin, (who died of natural causes). This is also where producers got the idea for "Silence of the lambs" and "Psycho".

i highly doubt. "based on true events" is just a technique writers use when writing a movie or book to make it more intresting. It could have a possiblity of being true though....
