1492. Christopher Columbus use to sing gangsta rap while at sea. His stage name was Christopher "Atlantic Breeze" Columbus. Not many people know this, so I am happy to share it with you.

If you don't manage to pin it down to a single year (which may be difficult & debateable anyway), just say it had its beginnings in the mid 80s. (guys like Ice T were talking about gangsta life back then before it was mainstream)

It depends. I'd say it started in the 1930s with beat neck jazz. I think "The Jet Song" in West Side Story (1961) was the first popular gansta rap song. People in biker gangs were easily doing that stuff before then.
