Any mechanic will be able to adjust the idle RPM. 500 is probably low - check the manual, but 700-800 is probably about right.

pretty sure but not positive that a 2000 chevy suburban has a tps..throttle positioning sensor..your sensor could be going bad but it should idle around 750-1000 rpm

no, 500 to 800 is norm. you are alright there unless its running rough in idle. then get it checked out.
