Why do people say that singer Blondie created the first Rap?

theyr'e talking about her song "Rapture"

if she was the first rapper then why did she say in her song, "FAB 5 FREDDY told me everybody's fly, d-jay spins and i say my, my"?

....who the hell do you think FAB 5 FREDDY was????..

there were many rab artists and groups way before Blondie came out with Rapture.....

.....and way before mtv decided to finally put rap on the air.

Definately not first-maybe just first main stream or first by a white chick maybe ...

Heh- Blondie was certainly Not, repeat, Not rap's creator.

They *did* bring it to the mainstream though w/ that song. But *create* it? No way. It' had been around making rumblings in the Bronx for a good 6, 7 years prior to "Rapture".

It was the first rap video to appear on MTV. That is probably why you hear so many people make that statement. Even though rap was around long before MTV came out.

It's because of people that never heard of Beat Neck, which was poetry set to a basic jazz tone that was popular in the 1930-1960s. Rap is just beat neck set to hip hop/dance or rock.
