I'm not being awkward but the answer is easy.
The oil companies are developing the replacement. They have far too much to lose to not cover their future.
Would you want to explain to the shareholders? Oh dear we've run out of oil, that's your lot & no more money.
They're busy working away at it & it's anybodies guess right now what that alternative might be.
Any takers?

Not to my knowledge is there any government involvement as yet, the big oil companies are scrambling to meet the demands for ethanol, that Al Gore was talking about 6 years ago along with the environmental issues that George W. has not thought about until recently due to pressure from taxpaying citizens who generally want a cleaner fuel source. Watch Al Gore's movie unless your a too stubborn conservative, who can't stand the fact that it is so successful with Americans.
