Here's a good place to get started....

You don't say what you're looking for, and Philly's food boom is in full swing. You can get everything in this city from the ultra-lush kind of stuff to a roast pork sandwich in South Philly (Tony Luke's...best you'll ever eat. Get the sharp provolone and brocolli rabe on it) Take a look on the website and narrow down your search.

You need to get a Cheesesteak. Find Geno's or Pat's. They are right across the street from each other and everyone likes one or the other. I had Geno's and it was awesome. They were also featured on Extreme Home Makeover when they were in Philly. Both are located on South 9th Street. Their websites are posted below.

On Pat's website, read the "How to Order" page.

First of all, if you're going to Philly in July you need to climatize yourself before you get there. Get to your nearest sauna or steam room as fast as you can. Lock yourself in the room for a few days until you feel your body begin to melt and your brain begin to fry. Then step out and think about whether you really feel like eating or if you just want to throw up before you pass out. Unless you are from some godforsaken, non-coastal, southern swamp town, you are in for a hot time in the city.

But if you make it through that, once you get to the City of Brotherly Love (with a suitcase loaded with deodorant), head for South Philly and have a cool and refreshing gelato (Italian ice cream) or an Italian ice (from a street vendor). And you've got to go to Termini Bakery on S. 8th St. Just don't drool on the pastries.

In case you don't eat your dessert first, try Dante & Luigi's on So. 10th St. for the best spaghetti & brasciole you'll ever find. The best homemade gnocchi's are at Mezza Luna at 8th & Catherine. You can't go to Philly without tasting a Philly cheesesteak but I think John's Roast Pork Deli on Snyder is better than Pat's or Geno's (two joints with that typical South Philly attitude: Wah? I ain't got all day. Ya see dat line behind ya? Wah daya want on et?). At John's, they use melted provolone not melted Velveeta.

You didn't state what your budget was like but you can eat a lot cheaper in South Philly than in Center City. Besides, you never know what free entertainment you'll see on the streets...a good crap game, a bocci ball tournament, cars driving on the sidewalk, men of all ages hanging out "on the cawna" in their jeans and "guinea T's", teenagers and young adults with expensive haircuts peacocking past one another, little old ladies looking askance at the teenagers and old men at outdoor cafes licking their lips at the young girls in tight clothes. Enjoy.

you need to eat at Jim's steak, they are really good, it is loketed in almost the end of South Street near to the river. I been there once and it's my boyfriend and my friend favorite place to eat a Philly cheese steack.

At Penn's Landing - Charter House (great Sunday brunch) or Spirit of Philadelphia (this is a small cruise ship that has lunch/dinner tours) and the Moshulu.

Don't leave the city before you have a steak or pork sandwich from Tony Luke's (my personal favorie = Pork Itallian, wet, w/sharp provolone and spinach)

definitely the previous innovations are enormously high priced. in case you like beer, i might propose Triumph Brewing Co on Chestnut between front and 2nd. each of the beers they brew stunning there are $5 and there's a solid determination. each of the meals i've got had became great, you may get something from a sandwich or a burger for $10-12 to a steak for $20. that is stunning and favourite yet to no longer the factor the place that is snobby. i like it. great for communities too with the aid of fact that is stunning and great. solid success picking and function relaxing!

Serrano (www.tinangel.com). Get the tuna steak. And the peanut butter pie. Actually, get pretty much anything on the menu. Then go upstairs and see the show.

^Chances are, when you come to your senses and realize you are in Philly, you'll be sick to your stomac and lose your appetite, so you won't need anyplace to eat.
